Rally Scoring Basics

  • The right side of the court is the EVEN side, the left side of the court is the ODD side.

  • A game begins at 0-0, with one team serving from the EVEN side of the court.

  • Every rally in a game wins a point, regardless of which team is serving.

  • Each side will have only one person serve. When the server wins a point, they will alternate sides (EVEN to ODD or ODD to EVEN), and serve again (see example in illustration below). The server will continue alternating sides until that team loses a rally/point. At that point, the serve goes to the other team.

  • If your score is an even number (0, 2, 4, etc.), you will serve from the EVEN side of the court. If your score is an odd number (1, 3, 5, etc.) you will serve from the ODD side of the court.

  • The sequence continues until the game is won by the first team to 21 points win by 1 (or win by 2).
